Diakonissenplatz has an eventful past, once characterised by picturesque diagonal paths and an impressive tree surround, it was last used as a bicycle training ground, with asphalted miniature roads and small green islands that still characterise the image of the square today.
The aim of the redesign of Diakonissenplatz was to transform it into a lively neighbourhood with a variety of play options. In collaboration with Mann Landschaftsarchitekturbüro from Fulda and with the active participation of local residents, a great result was achieved: an appealing redesign of the square that will be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
A central component of the redesign is the sand play area, which was created specifically for small children. This has now been supplemented with a ring game sand play platform and a double gate swing. The sand play combination offers children a variety of play options with a rotating sand lift, sand sieve and a sand channel with sand wheel.
For the older children, there is now a ring game with three differently arranged platforms and a stainless steel box slide. There are also 12 Mikado climbing poles to provide exciting adventures and plenty of exercise.
Three hammocks invite children to relax and enjoy themselves, creating a cosy oasis of calm in the square. Overall, the redesign of Diakonissenplatz has created a place that not only serves as a park for all citizens, but also as a meeting place for fun, games and relaxation in the centre of the city.
